Meet at the Moab Arts & Recreation Center (111 East 100 North) at 8:30 am on Friday, October 6th, 2017. Come ready to paint in the field. Location will be determined by the workshop instructor.
This watercolor workshop will focus on techniques in plein air painting light as it dances across the gorgeous Utah landscape. Join award-winning painter, Betty Carr, for a two day water media painting excursion to explore nature's beauty in the high desert and red rock territory through painting. She demonstrates in watercolor an understanding of color relationships, values, edges, temperatures of light and shadow and how to apply this knowledge to a strong composition in landscape painting. Massing and organizing darks and lights, understanding atmospheric and linear perspective and the use of a value sketch will be covered. The "how to's" in achieving dynamic and impressionistic paintings using painterly brushwork will also be in focus. Tips on Plein air painting with ease, lectures and handouts will all add to this fantastic learning experience. A discussion on applying ones field studies to future studio paintings will take place during our critique sessions. Come and join this memorable, exciting workshop, all levels are welcome. You are welcome to bring acrylics as well. Students will experience exciting painting techniques, develop a personal style in artistic approaches and gain inspiration and enthusiasm for future paintings.
